Introduction
Promotions are a fantastic, tried and tested method of generating additional sales, and LabelEd contains a sophisticated promotions engine which allows you the flexibility to set up promotions with configurable criteria, applying to different products, and with as many active at any one time as you wish.
This article discribes the process of managing a new or existing promotion. Please see the seperate articles for help with setting up discount codes or vouchers.
First, navigate to the "Promotions & discounts" section under the "E-Commerce Administration" title in the left-hand admin navigation.
If you are adding a new promotion, press the plus icon above the listing in the main panel, or to edit an existing promotion, click the "Edit promotion" link for the promotion you wish to change.
The promotion setup form
The LabelEd promotion setup screen is split into three main sections:
- Setup
- Discount and conditions
- Options
Setup
The setup section allows you to give the promotion a name, toggle it on or off, and set start and end dates. Two other options exist in this section:
Availability allows you to set whether this promotion is available to any eligible customer, or to customers only on their initial purchase, or on any purchase that isn't their first.
The Exclusive option allows you to define whether this promotion can be used in conjunction with any other existing promotion.
If you toggle this option to no, then this promotion can co-exist with other promotions. Toggling it to yes, however, will mean that if a customer meets the criteria for this promotion, they will automatically be ineligible for all other promotions, with one exception.
The exception is if the customer is also eligible for another promotion or combination of promotions which are not exclusive and would actually result in an overall cheaper order cost, LabelEd will automatically pick the promotions which would give the customer the greatest discount.
Discount and conditions
The discounts and conditions section allows you to define the actual promotion discount and optional criteria and is laid out into 3 steps:
Apply x to y when z.
So using the above formula, you first select a discount to apply, which can be a percentage discount, a fixed discount or a fixed amount.
Next, choose something to apply the discount to. Select "Any number", or input your own number and then press the "Choose" button. A selector will appear which will allow you to select a particular product, type of product, or category of products.
Next, decide whether you would like to include a criteria for this promotion. If you leave the "When" criteria at it's default, "No condition" then this promotion will apply itself to the order of any eligible user. Your other option is to choose "When user purchases", which then allows you to choose a number and a product, type of product or category of products. In this scenario, the promotion will only be applied to orders which meet your chosen criteria, such as if a user has added the particular number (or more) eligible items to their order, etc.
Options
This final section allows you to set a few final options. The first can optionally limit the promotion to orders which exceed a particular amount.
The second option - "Apply discount to" allows you to select lowest priced items or highest priced items. This will have an effect if you have chosen to apply the promotional discount only to particular items (as opposed to an entire order). In this scenario, you may only want to apply your percentage discount to the lowest priced items.
Finally, the "apply to" option allows you to choose eligible customers. The default option, "Site-wide" means that any customer can become eligible for the promotion by meeting the criteria. Choosing "Codes" here means that this promotion will only activate for customers who enter a particular promotional code when going through the checkout process. Please note that you will need to go into the seperate "Discount codes" section in your administration area to create a code to attach to this promotion. The final option, "Choose other..." allows you to select a particular user, user type or user group to apply this promotion to.
